Seeing Past Confusion to a New More Awakened State
Organic and inorganic planes intersect in reflections and the numinous is manifest. These steps are part of a sculpture by the very talented sculptor Robert Winkler, who merges mathematical precision with organic movement. Awakening requires both the discipline of consciousness and the ability to see beyond it’s limitations. Standing on my deck looking into my house while the vines, twigs, and sunset were reflected brought this artwork to life in a multidimensional way that transcended my preconceived notions of reality. I was reminded that we are always climbing metaphorical steps as long as we are alive, though the beginning and end of our journey is not always clear.
Before going inside, I looked out on the horizon through the trellis. I realized it was not the immediate horizon that matters right now, but our longer range vision. Too often we forget to focus on sustainability and the future, when making decisions, or we get so upset my what is happening that we inebriate ourselves so we can not feel or pretend there aren’t problems. It has indeed been a dark winter, but with better management of our national crisis, which is also a global one, it is beginning to feel like the dark days might end. Blue is the color of hope. Light will reveal the way forward.
