Winter Poems
White clouds punctuated
By blue skies and bare branches
Nature in flux
Spindly dormant grass
A crown of thorns spirals inward
What are we killing?
Snail-like roots descend
Reaching for soil and water
Connection happens
Oriental chimes
Blanketed with snow and silence
Waiting for springtime
Handmade butterflies
Soar past my window into life
The world beckons us
A stocked fire pit waits
Snow-covered limbs too wet to burn
Invisible friends.
Stripped bark reveals truth
Thorny vines stab those who lie
False messengers lurk
Tiny shriveled buds
Snow weighs down delicate weeds
Unexpected beauty
Brown and green leaves curl
Hold the innocence of snow
A fairytale world
My Vétheuil in winter
A crooked snow-covered branch
Pointing to mystery
New leaves arrive too soon
Encased in a ball of snow
Will they shake off death?
Winter’s syncopation
Twigs play counterpoint to branches
All life breathes as one
