Reaching for the Light

Reaching for the Light

Reaching for the Light

Reaching for the Light

Heading off on a stroll early one sultry July morning

I am jostled from my lonely meditative reveries

by the sight of a not yet flowering, gangly Joe Pye Weed

lit up by a powerful ray of light that penetrates

the wall of fir trees delineating my property line.

Graced too by the flash of brightness is the crown on my redbud;

Between the sap green blades and yellow-gold and red floating hearts

A band of darkness makes a sea of amorphous shapes recede

All that remains center stage is the longing for connection

with the source of this divine radiance and all it touches.

A stained glass curtain of leaves proclaims the plant’s exaltation

and the will to step up and meet my best self flutters within.
