Dancing in Concentric Circles
Dancing in Concentric Circles
A tree’s reflection dances in the lake, enhanced not disturbed
by expanding concentric circles that surround its trunk.
Will these circles widen to envelope the graceful branches
as they reach and sway in a multitude of directions?
Today there is a soft breeze and they move in harmony,
but tomorrow might herald the return of forceful winds
causing branches to smash into one another and crack.
The fragility of this peaceful moment makes me linger
as my gaze and soul are drawn into this fluid, fleeting
paradise where earth, water, and sky are inseparable.
Would that these circles could expand beyond this lake
and stave off storms on the horizon of our collective history.
I inhale slowly allowing this vision of oneness to recharge me
from my toes wiggling within my muddy boots working hard
to anchor me on the ever-shifting ground, to my head,
where I envision an imaginary string is attached
pulling me up so I can stand taller and breathe in hope.
